Mahalaya 2019 Best Bengali Movie | Short Review | Jishu Sengupta | Prosenjit Chatterjee

                    Mahalaya (2019)
              Dir. Soumik Sen
Cast. Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, Jishu                  Sengupta, Prosenjit Chatterjee

When two gentle titans clash because of circumstances, the result can be dazzling. Soumik Sen's Mahalaya mixes history nostalgically because it takes us back to the time when Birendra Krishna Bhadra
(Subhasish Mukhopadhyay) was dropped by Akashvani from their annual Mahisasurmardini programme. Uttam Kumar (Jisshu Sengupta) was brought in as a replacement but public outrage forces Akashvani to bring back Bhadra. Terrific writing complemented by the brilliant performances of the leads, make Mahalaya one of the finest Bengali movies to come out of the industry in a long long time.

In terms of nostalgia and emotions, this works really well. Some really fine performances. But if you need some convincing to watch this, watch it for the magnificent performance of Subhasish Mukherjee (this guy is ❤️❤️❤️❤️) and the dialogues. It's good to see a Bengali movie striving hard to get the writing done to perfection, whatever might be the result.

A must watch for Bengali Cine Lovers.
