US (2019) Movie Analysis

                        Movie Review
                           US (2019)

US is a brutal anti-America film. It is a zombiesque dystopia where the homeless others of a consumerist, brainsick country breed in the underground sewers and tunnels. They are the exact visual copies of the masses living overground; their lives and movements direct simulations of actions in the city. What they lack is language and excess.

Jordan Peele's world in US is scarier and more unsettling than the polarization in Get Out. Here the US isn't them anymore, they are tangible reproductions and bizarre end products of our own greed. Peele subtly drops Christian oracular pronouncements through Jeremiah 11:11 looking at an impending apocalypse. The end does come, as a new beginning for the deprived.

The brilliance of the film is in deliberate and continuous toning down of horror by (black) humour, and indirect mocking of Hollywood's fascination with slasher films.

P. S. - You might be beautifully reminded of the subway Merde and his occasional bombings in Tokyo and Holy Motors.
