Scam 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story
Dir. Hansal Mehta
Cast. Pratik Gandhi
Platform- Sony LIV

I didn't expect anyone in India to make something whose storytelling quality is on par with "The Social Network" but Hansal Mehta has done just that with "Scam 1992". I'm once again in awe of his masterful handling of true-life stories. His best work since "Aligarh".

I have to admit, though, that a lot of the technical terms went way over my head. But its beauty lies in the fact that it gets you interested in a subject that, in any other circumstance, would bore you to death. It's like that rare teacher in school who knows how to make you pass by presenting the lessons more colourfully. I now want to study all of those terms in detail.

And what a natural, perceptive actor Pratik Gandhi is! The calm through and before the storm. He charms us, just like he does all the other characters, and still keeps us at a distance due to his actions. There is something oddly inspiring about his portrayal even though you know what he is doing is not right. (I think he would be the perfect guy to play Dawood Ibrahim if anyone makes another realistic gangster drama here.)

It's also rare to see something where each actor and technical department is flawless. "Scam 1992" has raised the bar so high that I expect everything else that follows would be matched up to it.
