Jallaikattu (2019) Movie Review | Lijo Jose Pellisery

Jallikattu - Chasing the Unicorn called 'masculinity' which is disguised as a wild Buffalo: (Spoiler alert) " Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed " ~ Cesar A. Cruz LijoJosePellisery's new film ' Jallikattu ' could be regarded as an allegory to the above quote, both literally and figuratively. The writing is clever in the sense that this is implicit. I couldn't resist the recent Asuran hangover while watching it, in the sense that both films had the main plot entity constantly entwined with the narrative. ( Seruppu in the case of Asuran and Nature in the case of Jallikattu ) It's almost like nature plays the protagonist and we regularly get to see 'her' in the most laid back and calm manner. On the onset, it is a film masked as a thriller involving lot of chaos and action with a clock ticking, but as the layers peel off, it is such a masterfully written satire on masculinity. Mahalaya (2019) Dir. Soumik Sen Cast. Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, Jishu Sengupta, Prosenjit Chatterjee When two gentle titans clash because of circumstances, the result can be dazzling. Soumik Sen's Mahalaya mixes history nostalgically because it takes us back to the time when Birendra Krishna Bhadra ( Subhasish Mukhopadhyay ) was dropped by Akashvani from their annual Mahisasurmardini programme. Uttam Kumar ( Jisshu Sengupta ) was brought in as a replacement but public outrage forces Akashvani to bring back Bhadra. Terrific writing complemented by the brilliant performances of the leads, make Mahalaya one of the finest Bengali movies to come out of the industry in a long long time. In terms of nostalgia and emotions, this works really well. Some really fine performances. Joker (2019) Movie Review (Thoughts) Joker (2019) Like many who've already posted online, Joker is probably a film in a very long time, that took so much time for me to process and reflect. The film is a pinnacle achievement in writing that's so consistent from the start to end. This is a film about one man and one man only. Nothing more, nothing less!
